Vice President, Translational Biology

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, as the Vice President and Head of Translational Biology, you will serve as the discipline lead and foundationally, you will be an expert in small molecule oncology drug discovery with significant experience in developmental and differentiation biology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The successful candidate will bring a philosophy of incorporating translational biology concepts and approaches from target identification right through to clinical development to enable partnering the right target, with the right molecule with the right patient
  • Lead and provide oversight for the translational biology group, including building and developing key capabilities, as well as guiding and mentoring group members
  • A major responsibility of this role includes partnering with drug discovery and overseeing the identification, validation and progression of novel oncology targets through drug discovery and into clinical development
  • Create a strong and effective partnership with computational biology colleagues to enable jointly extracting key learnings, actionable targets and responder signatures from Auron’s vast multi-omic datasets within the AURigin computational biology platform
  • Support the creation of assays, models and biomarkers to support target validation, drug discovery, patient selection and clinical development
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to set goals, high level strategy and support execution towards creating significant value and important new medicines for patients
  • Support and contribute to advancing fund raising and business development objectives
  • Cultivate and nurture a network of collaborative partnerships with CROs and academics to support scientific objectives

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in biology or related field preferred with 15+ years’ experience in Biotech/Pharma
  • A strong track record of advancing multiple novel targets from early discovery, through lead optimization, DC nomination and into clinical development
  • Strong ability to assimilate multi-omic data with deep cancer biology knowledge to extract actionable learnings
  • Ability to blend internal discovery research capabilities with strategic outsourcing to create highly efficient program teams
  • Deep knowledge of developmental and differentiation biology as well as relevant in vitro assays and in vivo tumor models (including patient-derived xenografts) to progress programs
  • Capable of fostering a high-performance team that is mission-driven and results-oriented
